The new voice command system in iOS 5 could open links, send emails or add contacts

Immediately after the release of iOS 5 beta 5 it was discovered that Apple is working on a system of writing after dictation based on Nuance company technology. This system would be implemented in the iOS keyboard and would allow users to enter text in applications using only the voice. Now we learn that Siri, a service acquired by Apple last year, could be the basis a much more complex voice command system than initially thought. Siri is a “personal assistant” which, through voice commands, allows iDevice owners to order dinner, book a movie or restaurant ticket, search for a location, etc.

In iOS 5 Siri will of course work differently and in addition to the possible fulfillment of the tasks presented above, the system would also have access to the contact address, the e-mail boxes, the calendar application, the Phone application and finally it would be able to open links. If what I presented above will really be implemented in iOS 5 through Siri then we could send an email without pressing any key on the screen, we could call someone, add a contact or edit one using simple voice commands and of course we could visit iDevice.ro by saying only the name.

Practically, this system has been wanted for years in iOS and if Apple implements it now, it will catch up with those from Google who have something similar implemented for almost a year. Apple will probably do things differently and "better", but until then we only know that the system could work on both iPhone and iPad.
