An expert in screens for mobile terminals says that the Retina Display is superior to the Microsoft Surface screen

Two days ago I wrote an article in which I told you as a Microsoft engineer claims that the screen of the Microsoft Surface tablet would be better than the Retina Display of the iPad 3 tablet, although it has a resolution almost halved. It is based on ClearType technology, which in certain cases can give users the impression that the screen in front of them has a resolution 3 times higher than that specified by the manufacturer. To test Microsoft's claims, president of Display Mate compared the screens of the iPad 2, iPad 3 and an ASUS laptop that uses a ClearType screen, and his conclusion was that the Retina Display is clearly superior.

The Windows ClearType 768p display on the Asus Netbook was significantly sharper than the iPad 2 768p display but also significantly less sharp than the new iPad 3 1536p display. It is certainly possible that the Microsoft Surface RT Tablet will perform better than the Asus Netbook, but it is very unlikely that it will turn out to be visually sharper than the new iPad 3. All 3 displays have the same 5.9 inch screen height in Landscape mode, so it was an excellent and very fair comparison.

On Display Mate you have a technical and detailed explanation of Raimond Soneira's findings, but the conclusion is that Microsoft engineers exaggerated a bit when they said that the Microsoft Surface has a better screen than the iPad 3. It was hard to believe that this was true, but we are talking here only about the Surface that runs Windows RT and not about the Pro version that has a 1080p resolution, and there the statements of those from Microsoft could be true, although no one has done a test. After the tablet reaches the market, we will definitely find out how good its screen is, especially since Microsoft has silently challenged the experts to give their opinion.
