Intel will lay off 12.000 employees

Intel made an extremely surprising announcement today, the company is preparing the dismissal of 12.000 employees, or approximately 11% of the total number of people working for the American company, all part of a restructuring aimed at partially reducing operating costs.

Intel claims that the global decrease in PC sales is the basis of this layoff session, and with fewer employees the company will focus more on the data centers it controls, but also on computing services dedicated to companies.

According to the financial results reported by the Intel company during the last year, the cloud computing and connected gadgets divisions recorded increases of 2.2 billion dollars in receipts and represented 40% of the company's operational profit.

The layoffs will take place during this year and until the middle of next year, some of the employees will be convinced to leave the company willingly in exchange for generous compensation packages, and Intel's internet divisions will benefit from these layoffs.

Those from Intel expect that this measure will generate savings of 750 million dollars in 2016 and another 650 million dollars until the middle of next year, so we are talking about serious amounts of money that will remain in the company's accounts.

Intel Corporation today announced a restructuring initiative to accelerate its evolution from a PC company to one that powers the cloud and billions of smart, connected computing devices. These changes will result in the reduction of up to 12,000 positions globally, approximately 11 percent of employees.

The PC market has been in full decline for several years, but now we are seeing for the first time how affected Intel can be by the fact that people are not buying as many computers anymore, and we could witness similar problems from the PC manufacturers -hate.
