Opera browser was sold to Qihoo 360

Opera browser was sold to Qihoo 360 by the Norwegian company that created it and made it known all over the world, the purchase having the value of 600 million dollars, but we are only talking about the sale of the browser, the associated name, the applications for improving the experience of browsing the Internet and the patented technologies with it .

Company Opera hoped to sell the same components at the price of 1.2 billion dollars, but the authorities did not approve this transaction, so in the end it was chosen to sell to the Chinese from Qihoo 360 for an amount that represents half of what was supposed to be obtained initially, but the Norwegians seem to be satisfied with the sale.

Following this sale, the Norwegian company Opera it will keep its applications, games and television division, a total of 560 people working within these divisions, about half of those who developed the browser and adjacent services, but they generate higher revenues for Opera than the browser.

Considering the sale to Qihoo 360, company Opera it has 18 months to find a new name, so it will be transferred to the Chinese, and thus a great brand and a browser respected by many will become the property of a company from a country in which very few people trust, and this is rightly so.

... we believe that the new deal is very good for Opera employees and Opera shareholders. For Opera shareholders we are selling approximately a quarter of the company for $600m, which is an attractive price for this part of our business.

Opera currently has a market share of 1.9% in the computer segment and 10% in the mobile terminal segment, and considering the sale, it is unlikely that any growth will take place in any of the two segments because I have a suspicion that the world will start to avoid the software developed by Norwegians.
