Romania is Vulnerable to Computer Attacks

Romania is one of the most vulnerable countries to computer attacks, unencrypted connections being a big problem, apart from being ignored by Romanians.

Romania it is presented as being in the top of the countries that are most vulnerable to computer attacks, along with some of the countries considered to be from the 3rd world, but also important countries. We are talking about a global study to see how many risks exist in more or less developed countries, and Romania turns out to be one with many vulnerabilities.

The study was done by a company called Rapid7, and it tries to tell us how much national exposure a country has to computer attacks that could affect its citizens and companies. In the context in which attacks of the type WannaCryor Petya, have brought entire industries to their knees, and are still causing problems, studies of this kind are extremely important for everyone.

According to this study, in Romania there are still many people and many companies that are not sufficiently well protected against computer attacks. The calculation was made based on including the percentage of HTTPS connections used in each country to secure user communications, and in our country there is still much to improve from this point of view.

Romania is among the countries most vulnerable to computer attacks

According to the study done by Rapid7, here are the 10 most vulnerable countries to computer attacks:

  1. Zimbabwe – 54.71% unencrypted connections, 88,576 IPV4 allocated and 7,672 nodes;
  2. Hong Kong SAR – 68.4% unencrypted connections, 11,814,400 IPV4 allocated and 701,562 nodes;
  3. Samoa – 67.9% unencrypted connections, 17,920 IPV4 allocated and 786 nodes;
  4. Congo, Republic – 95% unencrypted connections, 53,760 IPV4 allocated and 25,314 nodes;
  5. Tajikistan – 69.97% unencrypted connections, 70,144 allocated IPV4 and 2,901 nodes;
  6. Romania – 66.60% unencrypted connections, 8,565,504 IPV4 allocated and 353,839 nodes;
  7. Ireland – 53.49% unencrypted connections, 6,480,720 IPV4 allocated and 685,713 nodes;
  8. Lithuania 63.60% unencrypted connections, 2,282,752 IPV4 allocated and 72,720 nodes;
  9. Australia – 52.24% unencrypted connections, 48,475,904 IPV4 allocated and 738,989 nodes;
  10. Estonia – 61.61% unencrypted connections, 1,237,560 IPV4 allocated and 43,462 nodes.

Practically, Romania is in the top of the countries with a lot of unencrypted connections, far below what the developed countries offer, but even below what exists in Zimbabwe. Without encrypted communications connections, Romania and its citizens are vulnerable to computer attacks, data theft, interception of communications, but even more.

Romania is vulnerable to cyber attacks

Of course, to make Romania safer in the face of computer attacks, massive investments are needed, which will not ensure total protection anyway. Even by encrypting the connections, users must be very careful about what they open on their computers in order not to risk infecting entire data networks.
