iPhone X Face ID – My Experience with Facial Recognition

My experience with Face ID from the iPhone X, the facial recognition system implemented by Apple in the new mobile phone launched today.

iPhone X Apple has implemented a facial recognition system called Face ID, which is intended to replace Touch ID after the Home button has been removed. Face ID in iPhone X works with the help of a TrueDepth camera that uses infrared and laser sensors to create a 3D representation of our face and give us access to the data in the phones, as Touch ID allowed.

iPhone X's Face ID was heavily criticized after during the presentation it refused to unlock the phone used for the demonstration, Apple explaining that the problem was with some people who were not recognized by the system when they were preparing the presentation phones. In the months since then, Face ID has been a big question mark for Apple customers who still bought the iPhone X, many fearing that it will be a failure.

Almost perfect in everything you do

Face ID from iPhone X is almost perfect and I say almost because nothing is perfect, although Apple seeks perfection in everything it does, but I haven't found any problems with it so far. I did a lot of unlocking with Face ID after I got the iPhone X phone that I'm talking about now, and until now I haven't had any problem with unlocking, or authorizing, using Face ID.

iPhone X First Impressions 8

Face ID in iPhone X works even better than Touch ID, which has moments when it refuses to recognize the fingerprint, but facial recognition is done flawlessly every time. The iPhone X must be held at a maximum of 50 centimeters from the face to perform facial recognition, and at this distance, up to a minimum of 10 centimeters, Face ID works without problems, no matter what you want to do with it.

Even Touch ID after setting it in a new iPhone model didn't work and it doesn't work as well, so I'm impressed by what Apple has achieved.

It's not fast when unlocking from the Lockscreen, but otherwise it's amazing

Face ID is not as fast as Touch ID when it comes to unlocking from the LockScreen, here fingerprint reading is faster, as you have already seen. The Apple company did not talk about this aspect and you have to get used to the fact that you will have to do an additional step, but even so, I would not want to return to Touch ID because it seems to me to be part of the past already.

Even if for unlocking from LockScreen Face ID is slower than Touch ID, for the rest of the authorizations in using the iPhone X, facial recognition is faster than reading the fingerprint. Practically, every time we should have scanned the fingerprint, Face ID in iPhone X automatically performs facial recognition without us pressing anything, so in daily use, Face ID will be faster.

Pay attention to you and notifications

Face ID will never unlock without looking at the iPhone X if you activate the function that requires attention to unlock, this function being extremely useful in tandem with the one for hiding notifications. If the iPhone X screen activates when you hold it in your hand, if you are not looking at it, the unlocking is not done, and any notifications will remain hidden for those around us.

This system works well, only if the screen is locked and we receive notifications, Face ID does not unlock to display them, a closing and reopening of the screen being necessary. I don't know if this is how the entire functionality of Face ID in the iPhone X was intended, or if it's a bug, so I can't pass everything to a system failure until there is more information about it.

Face ID is, for me, a huge step forward made by Apple with the iPhone X and I'm sure that many customers are equally satisfied with the system.
