The first Phones with In-Screen Fingerprint Reader will be Launched in 2018

The first smartphones with a fingerprint reader integrated into the screen will be launched next year thanks to the completion of the basic technology.

The first phones with a fingerprint reader on the screen will be launched in 2018, the company Synaptics announcing today that the production of this type of components dedicated to mobile phones has begun. Produced under the name Clear ID, these types of fingerprint readers will work exactly like the current ones, only they will be placed under the screens of mobile phones and not in dedicated buttons, as now.

Synaptics is known for producing touchpads and trackpads for laptops and more, and Clear ID was first announced a year ago, but will be released in 2018. Although some Android manufacturers they relied on Synaptics to provide them with this component in 2017, unfortunately it seems that it will only be integrated in 2018, so we will have to wait until their appearance.

Synaptics claims that 5 of the largest smartphone manufacturers are going to implement Clear ID in their own mobile phones, but for now no one knows when this will happen. Since Synaptics has not provided information about its partners, there are speculations suggesting that the Samsung Galaxy S9 could be among the mobile phones that could benefit from the technology.

Last year this type of components were not 100% ready for phones, making recognition difficult, so they were kept in the development process until the end of this year. No one knows which phones will end up in 2018 and how successful they will be, but it seems that the future will not necessarily be facial recognition systems, but also fingerprint readers integrated into mobile phone screens.
