iPhone: Apple abandons LCD screens for OLED?

Apple intends to abandon LCD screens for OLED ones, and today we also learn some details about the American strategy, and when this will happen.

iPhone Apple OLED LCD screens

Some rumors that appeared at the beginning of this year suggested that Apple is going to give up LCD screens for OLED ones starting with 2019, but it seems that things will not stay like that. More precisely, those from Apple would have contracted those from LCD to produce such screens for iPhone models that will be launched on the market in 2019.

iPhone 9 will have a Full Active LCD screen, not OLED, as some thought, and those from Apple will keep OLED screens in iPhone phones even in 2019. The reasons for keeping this strategy are not known for now, but it is very possible so that Apple does not have where to buy as many OLED screens as it needs, even in 2019.

LG will also supply OLED screens for Apple during 2019, but the quantities will be very small, a few million units, far below what is needed for the iPhone. LG failed to invest quickly enough to open factories to produce OLED screens, so Apple is forced to stay with Samsung, at least for now.

"LG Display is currently working on developing LCD LCD panels as well as OLEDs to be applied to 2019-type iPhones at Apple's request."

iPhone 9 therefore, it will not be the last new iPhone that has an LCD screen, the Apple company preferring to keep production costs at a low level, in order to generate good sales. If things continue at the same pace, then in 2019 we can expect new iPhone models in the fall, if not Apple will also launch the long-awaited iPhone SE 2 sometime in the spring.
