Vodafone. This week, the mobile phone operator won an extremely important victory in a battle it is having with ANPC, and it affects all customers in Romania, so you must know what is happening. More precisely, ANPC challenged in court Vodafone's decision to increase subscription prices in Romania following the adoption of GEO 114/2018, the authorities receiving complaints from customers following this decision.
Vodafone. The operator decided in April that from May the subscriptions of Romanian customers will increase by 1 euro, and ANPC considered this change to be abusive, so it decided to impose the suspension of the increase. ANPC also applied a fine of 70.000 LEI against those from Vodafone, and of course the operator decided to challenge the decision of the authorities in court, and has obtained a first victory now.

Vodafone. More precisely, in the first instance the operator obtained the suspension of ANPC's decision to block the price increase, and the fine would also disappear if this process is won. The decision given by the court is not final, for it an appeal can be filed by the ANPC lawyers within 5 days from the communication, and Vodafone will have to continue to defend itself in court in order to be able to increase the prices for millions of customers.

If the decision will be upheld even after the appeal, then the operator will be able to ask for more money from customers to cover the changes that GEO 114/2018 brings, and which generate higher operating costs. Vodafone is not the only operator that increased the prices of services following the adoption of GEO 114/2018, but it made one of the biggest increases, and until now it was the only one sanctioned, which also had the initiative blocked.
