In a completely unexpected change of strategy, the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), announced today that he will allow it authorized repair of iPhone phones including in third-party services, but only for phones that no longer have a warranty. Those from Apple tested a pilot program in the US, Europe and Asia to see the viability of this system, and now they have decided to launch an official program in the US through which third-party services can offer authorized repairs.

Third-party services that are interested in being part of the program will have access to original components for the iPhone, and will be able to participate in employee training programs to repair the phones. Not every type of repair will be possible in these third-party services, those from Apple having a narrow list of repairs that can be done, but everything only for phones that are out of warranty, not for those with warranty.

For the average user, the only difference is that third-party services will be able to use original components in iPhone phones, but otherwise, repairs for models under warranty must also be done in authorized services. It is possible that this is a first step towards allowing the repair of iPhones in third-party services even without voiding the warranty, but it is not known when this could happen.

"The Independent Repair Provider program is designed for companies interested in providing non-warranty iPhone repair services. Qualified companies can access original parts, tools, training, service guides, diagnostics and resources to perform a variety of out-of-warranty iPhone repairs, such as iPhone display and battery replacements.”

Apple is launching this program in the US, for starters, but intends to expand it to other areas of the world in the coming years, but everything will take time, and third-party services interested in participating in the program. It is not known when this program could arrive in Romania, but there will be no great benefits for Romanians, and this is because original parts for phones are more expensive than counterfeit or second-hand ones.
