Today, the Ministry of Health made an extremely interesting announcement for all of Romania, and this is because the College of Doctors in our country has decided to recommend vaccination against the Coronavirus with the vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency.
"The Romanian College of Doctors (CMR) takes note of the European Commission's decision to quickly authorize yesterday, on December 21, 2020, the first safe and effective vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19, a decision that came as a consequence of the recommendation of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) which was issued on the same day, following a process of in-depth evaluation of the scientific evidence from clinical trials on the safety, efficacy and quality of the vaccine produced by BioNTech and Pfizer.
Prof. Dr. Daniel Coriu, president of the Romanian College of Physicians: "This authorization was expected for a long time by the national scientific community, the medical body and the population, representing a hope of limiting the spread of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the return to normality.
Health professionals represent the segment of the population most strongly affected by the consequences of the pandemic, paying a painful tribute in the fight against the pandemic. However, I have always been on the front lines providing medical care, but also empathy and compassion to suffering patients and families. We thus fully feel the burden of this merciless disease.
Vaccination is the best option we currently have available to fight this pandemic."
Dr. Gindrovel Dumitra, family doctor, general secretary of the Romanian College of Physicians: "This vaccine represents, from my perspective, an effective tool in the fight against this pandemic and I think it is important that we, the medical body, inform ourselves about to the scientific evidence following the trials for this vaccine and to bring this data accurately, transparently and responsibly to our patients. I support the vaccination of COVID-19 in Romania".
The Romanian College of Doctors welcomes the authorization issued by the competent European authorities and recommends the medical body to obtain information from authorized sources in order to make an informed decision to vaccinate as well as to correctly and completely inform the population."
