Coronavirus Romania New Number of New Cases August 17, 2022

The coronavirus in Romania remains very present in communities throughout the country, with infection numbers that remain high among Romanians, and this is due to the high contagiousness of the Omicron strain, but also the lack of measures to prevent the spread in this complicated period for very a lot of people.

The coronavirus continues to infect thousands of people every day, but despite this, the authorities in Romania say that there is no cause for concern, and this is because there are few people hospitalized in hospitals, both in the normal wards and in the ATI ones, so things would be under control at the moment in the medical units.

The 6th wave of infections generated by the Coronavirus appears to be headed for a substantial reduction in the number of new daily cases by the end of this month, before school resumes, but authorities expect to see a 7th wave of infections this fall, most likely somewhere around October or November.

"In the last 24 hours, 7.500 new cases of people infected with SARS - CoV - 2 (COVID - 19) were registered, 3.900 more than the previous day. 1.492 of the new cases in 24 hours are of reinfected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after the first infection.

Distinct from the newly confirmed cases, following retesting of patients who were already positive, 354 people were reconfirmed positive.

In specialized health units, the number of people hospitalized in wards with COVID-19 is 3.701, 274 less than the previous day. Also, 274 people are hospitalized at ATI, 6 less than the previous day. Of the 274 patients admitted to ATI, 243 are unvaccinated.

Of the total hospitalized patients, 476 are minors, 472 being hospitalized in wards, 80 less than the previous day and 4 in ATI, 1 more than the previous day.

Until today, 66.417 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

Between 16.08.2022 (10:00) and 17.08.2022 (10:00) 42 deaths (23 men and 19 women) were reported by INSP, of which 2 were reported before the reference interval.

In the last 24 hours, 5.036 RT-PCR tests were performed (3.168 based on case definition and medical protocol and 1.868 on request) and 23.626 rapid antigen tests. Until this date, at the national level, they have been processed
