iPhone 7 Plus vs Canon T4i - comparison of the Portrait function

The iPhone 7 Plus is compared to a Canon T4i DSLR camera to show how well it records pictures using the Portrait function of iOS 10.1.

I know that many of you do not agree with the camera compartments of an iPhone and that of a DSLR camera, but today we have a comparison between a 7 iPhone Plus and a Canon T4i. In the images below you can see how well both of them do with bokeh, that is, bringing the subject to the foreground and applying a blur effect to the background.

Last night Apple announced the new Portrait function of the iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 10.1 beta 1 being the version of iOS 10 that brings it to us in the Camera application. Those from Apple claim that this function has been available for years on DSLR devices, and now those with the iPhone 7 Plus will have it available thanks to the dual camera, so iPhone 7 will not provide it in any way.

Well, to see how well the iPhone 7 Plus takes pictures with the portrait function, an American publication thought to compare it with the similar function available in a Canon T4i DSLR camera. The device has a 40mm lens with f/2.8 aperture, iPhone 7 Plus having a 28mm wide-angle camera with f/1.8 aperture and a 56mm telephoto camera with f/2.8 aperture.

To begin with, it is as clear as possible that the Canon T4i DSLR captures better photos than the iPhone 7 Plus, and no one can deny that in any way. Those from Apple have said very clearly that the iPhone 7 Plus is not a replacement for DSLR devices, even if it has a dual camera, and these images confirm this aspect without a doubt.

I would like to say that the iPhone 7 Plus is at least close to the quality of pictures taken using a DSLR camera, but this is far from true, unfortunately. The problem lies in the fact that the pictures are taken using, mainly, the telephoto camera, which has a poorer quality than the wide-angle one, the latter recording only the background.

We will definitely see a comparison between an iPhone 7 Plus and a DSLR camera when recording photos using the wide-angle camera, and I think things will be different there. For the Portrait function, at least, the iPhone 7 Plus has no chance to even come close to the DSLR in terms of recording pictures in everyday life.
