The hack is based on the penetration of a computer network of a store, several researchers in computer security demonstrating how easily everything can be done. The main problem is not based on exploiting the payment system of a store, but the actual purchase, because the hacker has to stand in front of the seller when he pays and the lowest price for the product he wants is displayed.
The POS systems developed by those from SAP and Oracle are vulnerable to this hack, and the access to the computer networks of the stores can be done even from the fruit scales. In the USA there are many POS based on SAP and Oracle technologies, so there the problem is very big, but the same can be true in Romania if the technologies used are similar.
"The connections between the POS workstation and the store server [...] [often] lack the basics of cybersecurity - authorization procedures and encryption - and nobody cares about it. So, once an attacker is in the network, he or she gains full control of the system."
