Young people give up a LOT, but NOT the Smartphone

Young people would be willing to give up a lot before giving up their smartphone, the addiction to smart phones reaching a dangerous threshold.

Young People Give Up A LOT NO Smartphone

Young people are "tied" to the smartphones they use in everyday life, and this connection is so strong that some would give up a lot before giving up phone. A recent study in the USA reveals that 41% of young people would rather give up washing their hair with shampoo for a week than give up their smartphone.

Moreover, 54% would be willing to give up movies and TV for a month, before giving up their smartphone, while 28% would be willing to give up their pet for a week. 23% would prefer a smartphone instead of coffee, while 17% would even give up their toothbrush for a week, instead of a smartphone.

Young people give up a LOT, but NOT the Smartphone

Smartphones have turned from a luxury object, a few years ago, into a convenience, an object that anyone can afford, but without which they can no longer live. Smartphones have become so important to our lives that they have created a level of addiction stronger than that of drugs.

"41% of millennials ages 18 to 34 said they would be willing to quit shampooing for a week if it meant keeping their phone for that same period of time. ... a similar number of respondents (54%) said they would be willing to give up movies and TV for a month, while 28% said they would be willing to give up their pet for the week, 23% chose their phone over caffeine, and a small 17% took the 'take my toothbrush but not my cell phone' approach."

Big IT companies have been harshly criticized for the high level of addiction that smartphones create, so some have started to implement functions to make us give it up. iOS 12 Screen Time is one of the important iPhone and iPad features that will do that, though Facebook prepare something similar.
