Telekom Romania announced today a round of layoffs for a significant number of its employees, all in an attempt to further reduce the costs that the telecommunications operator now has in the country. According to a press release published by Telekom Romania, 692 employees will be fired from the operator's two divisions, most of them leaving the one that also has mobile telephony.

Telekom Romania is laying off a little over 10% of the total number of employees it has in the country at the moment, and this has generated anger from the union that represents them. The union leaders of the Telekom Romania employees demanded the resignation of the management following the announcement regarding this hiring round, and this is the normal reaction that anyone expects from an organization of this kind, regardless of the country.

Telekom Romania makes it clear that it has not already decided which of its employees will be fired, and that it will carefully analyze the people who are going to lose their current job. Today there is also a meeting of the management of Telekom Romania to discuss these layoffs, but since a public announcement was made, it is quite clear that the union leaders cannot stop this action of the company.

Telekom Romania announces its intention to restructure 692 positions out of the total of 5.831 employees currently at the level of the group of companies - 438 positions within Telekom Romania Communications SA, respectively 254 positions within Telekom Romania Mobile Communications SA.

Telekom Romania had scheduled a second meeting at 12:00 in which the union leaders were to be informed that another 1800 people would be fired as part of the sale of the group to another company. We are basically talking about a "noisy" departure from Romania of those from Deutsche Telekom, they will leave Telekom Romania without a good part of its current employees, which also reduces operating costs.

Telekom Romania is the second largest telecommunications operator in Romania, with revenues of over 1 billion euros annually, but that doesn't matter in the end for the Germans.
