Romanian Government: BIG Changes Adopted in the Highway Code

The Romanian government has made a series of very important changes to the road code, here is what is imposed on Romanians with today's emergency ordinance.

Romanian Government Road Code

The Government of Romania adopted today an emergency ordinance that brings a series of big changes to the Highway Code, and it is good to know what is happening in order not to be fined by the Romanian Police. This big change refers to the electric scooters, which you can rent from the phone, they have now been imposed by the Romanian Government more restrictions in terms of circulation on public roads, as requested by many people.

The Government of Romania imposes with today's changes that electric scooters can only be driven on bicycle paths, where they exist, and where they do not exist, only on roads with a maximum permitted speed of 50 KM/h. The new limitation imposed by the Romanian Government prohibits those with electric scooters from driving on most of the big boulevards in Bucharest where the maximum speed limit is 60 KM/h, which comes as good news for drivers.

The Government of Romania it also prohibits the use of electric scooters by more than one person, so you cannot carry passengers with them, nor babies, as I have seen in Bucharest many times. The Romanian government also requires that everyone over the age of 16 wear a helmet when using a scooter, or even a bicycle, on public roads, so you can't leave them on the sidewalk or bike path without something like that.

The Government of Romania it also restricts the possibility for children under 14 to ride on public roads, regardless of whether they ride an electric scooter or a bicycle. Both electric scooters and bicycles must have lighting or signaling elements that allow them to be distinguished in traffic, the Romanian Government wanting drivers to be able to detect these traffic participants more easily.

The Government of Romania established that for non-compliance with these rules, fines from the third class of sanctions will be applied, i.e. from 860 LEI in the USA, and those without identification documents can be taken to the department for this.
