Planet Jupiter: Researchers Amazed, Historic Discovery

Historical Jupiter planet

The planet Jupiter still manages to surprise researchers from all over the world, and this is because they recently made a historic discovery that they were totally amazed by, and that's because they still can't explain it. More than 150 years after the discovery of the great storm on the planet Jupiter, scientists have recently realized that the wind speeds within it continue to increase, but not throughout this storm, but only in certain regions of it, according to the information.

The planet Jupiter has this huge storm on its surface marked as an iconic reference point by which the planet is easily recognized by almost anyone, but what keeps that storm active no one knows for sure. However, the scientists were amazed by this newly discovered mystery, and this is because the winds in the ring region of the storm have increasingly high speeds, while in the central area of the storm the wind speed has been decreasing for some time.

Planet Jupiter: Researchers Amazed, Historic Discovery

The planet Jupiter registers in the annular area of its storm winds that reach speeds of up to 650 km/h, or at least that is what scientists recorded in 2009, but by 2020 their speed has increased by 8%. The researchers managed to discover this change in wind speed only because they have 11 years of observations made with Hubble behind them, otherwise they would not have noticed that the wind speed in the storm on the planet Jupiter would have increased by this percentage.

"When I initially saw the results, I asked, 'Does it make sense?' No one has seen this before. We're talking about a change so small that if you didn't have 11 years of Hubble data, we wouldn't know it happened. Hubble is the only telescope that has the kind of temporal coverage and spatial resolution that can capture Jupiter's winds in this detail."

The planet Jupiter is still a huge mystery for researchers, they are recording a decrease in the diameter of the storm, which still remains at over 16.000 km, as the speed of some winds increases and others decrease. These major differences in how the giant storm on Jupiter is handled show us how much we still don't understand about planets we can't explore, like Mars.

The planet Jupiter will remain in the attention of scientists from all over the world, especially since changes of this kind are happening which for the time being remain without any clear explanation, until the end.
