The EU will offer free Wi-Fi in 8000 locations in Europe

We will have free Wi-Fi in almost 8000 locations in Europe through the WiFi4U program voted by the European Union this week.

Free Wi-Fi will be available in more than 8000 locations on the European continent in the coming years, according to a program called Wi-Fi 4U voted by the EU on Monday. WiFi4EU is the program through which the European Union will create access points with free Wi-Fi for Europeans, and this will certainly please a lot of people who do not have a lot of internet traffic in their mobile phone subscription.

The WiFi4U plan, through which access points with free Wi-Fi will be installed, was approved on Monday by the European Parliament, the Council of Europe and the European Commission. According to the agreement, between 6000 and 8000 access points with free Wi-Fi will be established through the WiFi4U plan in Europeana, and they will be able to be accessed by any person who is around them.

The WiFi4U program is intended to be carried out until 2020 by the European Union, so that by then some of these access points will be open for free Wi-Fi. The WiFi4U plan was discussed last year, and its goal is to bring free Wi-Fi to every city and village in the European Union, in the areas where most of the civic activity takes place.

Access points with free Wi-Fi within the WiFi4U program will be located in public squares, parks or hospitals, 120 million euros being allocated for deployment in the first phase. This money will be used to buy the necessary network equipment for the location of the access points with free Wi-Fi, but for now it is not known which companies will provide them.

Local authorities in European countries must apply to be part of the WiFi4U plan to receive money and create access points with free Wi-Fi. The money will only be granted for locations that do not already have free Wi-Fi, and in Romania it is unlikely that we will see anyone applying, given that it is harder to steal from European money.

"The European Parliament, the Council and the Commission reached tonight a political agreement on the WiFi4EU initiative and its funding which supports installing free public Wi-Fi hotspots in local communities across the EU: in public squares, piazzas, parks, hospitals and other public spaces."

Despite this, it is good to see that the European Union wants to connect more people to the Internet with this plan by which it wants to offer free Wi-Fi in several locations in Europe.
