The iPhone XS will have a cutout in the screen implemented by Apple for the TrueDepth Camera, but it seems that it will be smaller than the one existing in the iPhone X at the moment, the final dimensions not being clear yet. Apple will not only reduce the size of the screen cutout for the iPhone XS, iPhone X Plus and iPhone 9, but also intends to reduce the thickness of the edges of the screen on the entire front panel.
"Apple is planning to release two models with OLED display and a model with LCD display during this fall. It is heard that OLED models will be available in 5.85-inch display and 6.46-inch display while an LCD model will be available only in 6.04-inch model. All three of these models will have Face ID function and it is heard that there will be less bezel and smaller notch design."
iPhone - the cutout disappears from the models released in 2019
The iPhones that will be launched in 2019 by the Apple company will not have an integrated cutout in the screen, the Apple company already having plans to give up this design feature next year. It is not known where the camera, or the sensors, of the iPhone models that will be launched in 2019 will be implemented, but those from Apple would like to offer a screen that really covers the entire front panel, without any visible cutout in it.

The iPhone will not remain without Face ID in 2019 after removing the cutout from the screen, Apple will continue to offer the TrueDepth camera and all the specific assembly to allow facial recognition. Apple seems to know how much the world hates the cutout in the iPhone X screen, so it wants to make it smaller in 2018 and forgotten from 2019, and with this change I think that many customers of the American company will agree.
