FBI: CRITICAL WARNING for Wi-Fi Router Owners

The FBI has issued a critical warning to owners of Wi-Fi routers around the world, the American federal agency having a message that everyone must listen to.

FBI CRITICAL MESSAGE Holders of Wi-Fi routers

FBI, one of the most famous and important federal agencies on the planet, made an extremely important announcement over the weekend that targets Wi-Fi router users around the world. We are talking about a problem that has already affected hundreds of thousands of people from various areas around the globe, those from the FBI claim that Russian hackers have created a huge network of virtual robots based on infected Wi-Fi routers, it has already been used for various attacks.

The FBI is issuing a warning about the malware VPNFilter, which we told you about last week, it being distributed by the hackers from Sofacy, also known as APT 28, or Fancy Bear, the Russian army could be behind them. According to computer security companies, these hackers managed to create a malware that infects almost any kind of Linksys, MikroTik, Netgear and TP-Link Wi-Fi routers, the problem being a huge one.

FBI: CRITICAL WARNING for Wi-Fi Router Owners

The FBI claims that the hacker network is constantly growing from 2016 until now, with more than 500.000 people being infected, the federal agency recommending people to reboot the routers in an attempt to destabilize it. The FBI seized the domain toknowall.com, whereby initially infected routers were reinfected after restarting, now this is impossible, and that's why the FBI asks people to restart their routers, to try to get rid of the malware.

"The FBI recommends any owner of small office and home office routers power cycle (reboot) the devices. Foreign cyber actors have compromised hundreds of thousands of home and office routers and other networked devices worldwide. The actors used VPNFilter malware to target small office and home office routers. The malware is able to perform multiple functions, including possible information collection, device exploitation, and blocking network traffic.”

The FBI also knows that this malware can destroy a Wi-Fi router with a simple command given by hackers, so the warning about rebooting and trying to get rid of the malware should be taken very seriously. Anyone with a Linksys, MikroTik, Netgear and TP-Link router should listen to the FBI and reboot their device to get rid of the malware, but in general it's recommended to reboot your routers because they also need so.
