Earthquake now, live, in real time, or whatever you want to call it, that's what the people from National Institute for Earth Physics Research and Development (INFP), who created a system that alerts you when a earthquake in Romania. We are talking about an earthquake alert system, which aims to send you a message through the Telegram application for iOS and Android even when an earthquake is detected, so theoretically you could have a few seconds to save your life.
The earthquake cannot be predicted, not even by INFP, but through the Telegram application for iOS and Android you will receive an alert that could prove to be lifesaving, all thanks to a virtual robot created by the National Institute for Earth Physics Research and Development. Unlike RO-ALERT, which does not send warnings in case of an earthquake, those from INFP do, but not through their own application, but through the Telegram one, and you must always have an active internet connection to benefit from functionality.
EARTHQUAKE now: SETTING A LIVE ALERT on iOS and ANDROID from INFP
The earthquake alerted by INFP has in the image above how it will be displayed, and you can see that we are talking about its magnitude, and nothing more, so you know what to expect. Those from INFP allow receiving alert messages through the Telegram application for any earthquake in Romania, but if you wish, you can also receive alerts for earthquakes that occur outside the country, all depending on what you want to know from the system.
An earthquake for which you receive an alert from the INFP can give you up to 30 seconds to react and get to a place where your life will not be in danger, but of course you have to be careful when the notification comes . Unlike RO-ALERT, these notifications from Telegram on iOS and Android for any earthquake will not have a specific sound and will not ring loudly until you close them, so you must have your phone close, or in your hand.
Configuring the earthquake alert on iOS and Android via Telegram
The earthquake alert through the Telegram application for iOS and Android requires the installation of the application from App Storeor Play Store, and setting up an account that you can use in the platform. After you have created an account in the Telegram application, you will only have to follow the instructions below to connect with the INFP robot and receive the earthquake alert when the institution detects seismic activity for Romania.
Here's how to configure the Telegram application to receive earthquake alerts on iOS and Android, according to INFP:
- Write in the search field @alertacutremur_bot and select the first option;
- Press START to start interacting with the Bot @alertacutremur_bot;
- A list of available commands will appear. Choose the option /alert by clicking on it or actually writing it in the message field;
- Click on the button Read the Terms and Conditions;
- Click on the button Accept if you agree with the Terms and Conditions. Otherwise press the button Refusal;
- Enter your phone number and email address. These data are stored by INCDFP and confirm your personal decision to use the alert service on your own responsibility, before the authorities.;
- You will receive access to 4 alert channels and one for seismic education. You can use several channels at the same time, depending on your preferences for the magnitude thresholds of the alerts. To use these channels, click on the related buttons.
- The channels you have subscribed to for notifications will appear in the list together with the bot @alertacutremur_bot
- You can personalize your notifications by changing the frequency of reception, the alert sound and their priority. To customize the notifications received for a channel (eg M<5), click on the channel name when you are in it;
- M < 5 – alert for earthquakes with magnitude less than 5;
- M 5-6 – alert for earthquakes with a magnitude between 5 (inclusive) and 6;
- M 6-7 – alert for earthquakes with a magnitude between 6 (inclusive) and 7;
- M 7+ – alert for earthquakes with magnitude greater than or equal to 7;
- Seismic Education - seismic risk prevention measures and behavior during it;
- Click on Notifications.
- Choose the option Customize and tick the box Enable Custom Notifications;
- The options available in this screen;
- Sound – a predefined or customized alert sound;
- Vibrate – vibration settings;
- Smart Notifications - set the maximum number of notifications per minute/minutes.
- Priority – alert priority settings while using different phone sound profiles (e.g. silent, conference, etc.).
- Bot @alertaCutremur_bot offers several informative options;
/romania- displays the latest earthquakes in Romania with a local magnitude greater than or equal to 4. Alerts are sent for all these earthquakes./global– displays the last earthquakes in the world with a local magnitude greater than or equal to 5 (can be revised with smaller magnitudes)./despre– information about the bot @alertaCutremur_bot and the Early Seismic Alert service via Telegram.
Earthquakes will be alerted for you every time after you complete this setup process, so in theory you should be safe.
