Twitter introduces the Like button

Twitter LikeTwitter officially introduced today the Like button for tweets published within its microblogging network, replacing the button that normally allowed users to add a tweet to their favorites list.

The button represented until today by a star that allowed adding a tweet to the favorites list has been replaced with a heart that now has the role of liking a user's tweet, Twitter hoping that this change will increase interaction on its social network.

Without making a confusion between retweet and new like button, pressing the latter will not share the content on the profile of Twitter of the user, but will only save it in a list that only he will be able to see, so that its significance is not great, the person who published the tweet being notified when the message receives a like.

We are changing our star icon for favorites to a heart and we'll be calling them likes. We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers. You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite. The heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones. The heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people. And in our tests, we found that people loved it.

Same like button it will also be transferred to the Vine or Periscope services by the Twitter company in the not too distant future, this being a move that aims to generate more competition for Facebook, the company that made the Like button popular.
