Galaxy Note 7 - here's why the batteries explode

A theory that appeared on the internet this day tries to explain why Galaxy Note 7 batteries explode.

Although Samsung engineers have not been able to discover why the batteries explode Galaxy Note 7 even when it doesn't load, there are some theories on the internet about this. One of those that has the most support is based on the fact that the design of the Galaxy Note 7 was conceived incorrectly, and the batteries used are not suitable for its case.

More precisely, Samsung created more space for the stylus through a 3D thermoforming process, managing to make a curved and symmetrical screen, both for the front panel and for the case. To achieve this design, Samsung modified the case so that the space for other components was reduced, and this affected the batteries used.

After the first recall of the Galaxy Note 7 by Samsung, it was discovered that the batteries supplied by Samsung SDi were too large for the compartment in which they were forced. In this idea, the plates that isolate the battery compartments were too close to the edges of the battery, and under the pressure applied by the case, they were prone to short-circuiting the battery, overheating and finally its explosion.

Apart from these, problems were also found with the insulating tape of the batteries, made by another company, as well as with the protective layer of the negative electrodes. Separately, these problems could not cause the explosion of the batteries, but combined with the pressure applied to the insulating plates, we have as a result the effect we have seen in recent weeks.

According to this theory, mounting the batteries in the curved case and sealing the terminal to make it waterproof would result in unusually high pressure being applied to the edges of the battery. This pressure combined with the manufacturing defects of the battery, previously mentioned, resulted in the numerous explosions that we have seen so far.

Of course, this is just a theory and Samsung didn't even manage to find out the real cause of the problems, but everything could be based on exactly these defects. Some Samsung engineers probably foresaw these possible problems, but the rush to bring the terminal to market probably led to them being ignored.

Unfortunately, the result was not the desired one and Samsung has a lot of problems after following this decision.
