Valeriu Gheorghita: The Official Decision in the 4th Wave from Romania

Valeriu Gheorghita spoke about an extremely serious decision that Romania is taking at an extremely important moment in the midst of wave 4 of infections with the Delta variant of the Coronavirus at the center of an accelerated increase in the number of infections throughout the country during this period.

Valeriu Gheorghita talks below about the third dose of the vaccine against the Coronavirus, the one that will be given including in Romania, but only for certain people at the beginning, and only under certain conditions, before the general population receives it.

"Regarding a second aspect that is currently being discussed at the level of the European Medicines Agency, we are talking about dose 3, i.e. an additional dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, and here I would like to explain this difference. On the one hand, we are talking about an additional dose of vaccine for certain categories of immunosuppressed people, such as post-transplant people or people who are on record with oncological conditions in active treatment, people with other conditions of immunosuppression, either primary or acquired, such as untreated or advanced HIV infection.

Also, people taking immunosuppressive therapies, either corticotherapy or biological therapy, will be instructed to perform three doses of the vaccine in the first vaccination schedule instead of two doses, which is recommended at this time.

Also discussed is the booster or booster dose, which is carried out at least 6 months after the initial vaccination schedule and which is also proposed for the categories of vulnerable people, the elderly, people who are on record with chronic conditions and, subsequently, the other categories of people who received the initial vaccination schedule will also be able to be vaccinated.

So, as I have already announced, for the month of October, the beginning of October, we propose to start this stage in Romania as well, provided that by that time we have all the preliminary stages related to the international recommendations of the group of experts from the European Agency of Medicine, as well as from the European Center for Disease Control."
