Valeriu Gheorghita: Wave 4 of the Coronavirus, the Impact in Romania

Valeriu Gheorghita spoke about the impact that the 4th wave of the Coronavirus will have in Romania, the authorities being sure that it will come, only that it is not known exactly when we will feel its first effects, but we can expect to see quite a few cases we.

Valeriu Gheorghita says, however, that the impact that the 4th wave of the Coronavirus will have on the health system depends very much on the number of vaccinations, an increased rate also leading to milder forms that do not put pressure on hospitals, as happens in other countries European.

"It is difficult to precisely draw this prediction. We can really anticipate a probability of an increase in the number of cases, as a result of the entry into circulation of this variant, the Delta, which today is also on the territory of our country, that is precisely why I believe that the prevention part remains the main pillar through which we we can ensure a control of the spread of the infection on the territory of the country.

What we know very clearly is that the Delta variant is highly transmissible, it is the most adapted viral variant, it has the ability to escape partially from the neutralizing action of antibodies, obtained both after passing through the disease and after vaccination, and in this way I think the combination of compliance with the already known prevention measures and the acceleration of the vaccination campaign may later protect us from a rapid evolution of the case confirmation curve.

We do not want to have an increase in the number of cases or, please, not a significant one, which would lead to a large number of hospitalized people and which would crowd the Intensive Care Units. I think no one wants deaths from COVID-19, inpatients, we need this environment to be as safe as possible to see each of us go about our daily lives."
