Download: redsn0w 0.9.6 rc7 simplifies the jailbreak process

Last night the Dev Team released a new one Update for redsn0w 0.9.6 which tries to simplify the jailbreak and tethered boot process for those who need either of these 2 functions. One click support was implemented in redsn0w 0.9.6 rc7 and this means that the entire jailbreak or tethered boot process can be done by simply running a command in the Terminal application on Mac or in the Command Prompt program in Windows. The idea is good, but for beginners I do not recommend using the function one-click because it requires intermediate knowledge of working with Mac OS X or Windows.

Here are the command lines MuscleNerd introduced in the new redsn0w 0.9.6 rc 7:

  • -j for the "Just boot now tethered for now" command
  • them to specify the file location
  • -o for iPhone 3GS or iPod Touch 2G with old bootrom
  • -b to specify your own boot logo

An example of the command to start the terminal in tethered mode looks something like this: open ~/Desktop/redsn0w.app —args -j -i ~/Desktop/iPod4,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw

You can use the above command on Mac OS X only if you have all the necessary files on your desktop, if you do not modify the command according to the location of your file or your needs. For Windows users, there is included a script that assumes that all the necessary files are in the C:\ partition and once run, the terminal will start in tethered mode.

That's all from the Dev Team for today, I hope that soon we will have the Windows version of redsn0w 0.9.7. This version of redsn0w only works with iOS 4.2.1 and the old tethered boot rules still apply!
