Tutorial: Activate the HDR function on iPod Touch 4G with iOS 5

In iOS 4.x Apple implemented for our iDevices the HDR function for recording photos, a function that theoretically should significantly improve the quality of photos taken with an iPhone. Not everyone agrees that the HDR function is really useful, but Apple has activated it only on certain terminals and the iPod Touch 4G is not one of them because it has a small camera that you cannot use to take great pictures. Even so, some thought it would be useful to activate the HDR function on these terminals as well, and below you can find out how you can do this.

The tutorial only works on iOS 5 and iPod Touch 4G. I haven't tested the tutorial because I don't have an iPod Touch 4G, so you do it at your own risk.

1. After jailbreaking your iDevice, download a program like ifunbox (Windows) or DiskAid (Mac).

2. Open the program and access the system files of your iDevice.

3. Navigate to System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MediaToolbox.framework/N81 where you will look for the file AVCaptureSession.plist which you have to edit. My advice is to copy the file to your computer and duplicate it.

4. Now using a .plist file editor, open the file copied to the computer and look for the FullResolutionPreview code line and immediately after the True line paste the code below:

HDR MaxFrameRate 30 MinFrameRate 15 Preview Height 640 PixelFormatType 420 f Width 852

5. Save the file, transfer it back to the iPod Touch in the location from which you downloaded it, then navigate to the location System / Library / CoreServices / SpringBoard.app / where are you looking for the N81.plist file.

6. Open that file with a .plist editor and add the code at the end:

hdr-image-capture

7. Copy the file back to the iPod Touch (if you transferred it to the PC first) and reset the iPod. Remember that you have a tethered jailbreak, so you must restart the terminal with redsn0w.

After the terminal restarts, you should have the HDR function activated in Settings>Photos.
