Android 9. THE Google CHANGE that generated RAGE

Android 9. A very important change made by Google for the operating system has generated serious anger, here is what is behind it.

Android 9 Wi-Fi

Android 9. The current version of Google's operating system came with a lot of changes for phones and tablets around the world when it was released, but not all of them are good, according to some. More precisely, Google made a change to the way Wi-Fi networks are recognized by phones with the Android 9 operating system, so that the battery autonomy of the devices is greatly improved in the end.

Android 9. More specifically, Google has limited the number of scans an application can make for Wi-Fi networks near the user, all to significantly improve battery life. An application opened on the main screen can only scan Wi-Fi networks around a person 4 times in two minutes, while applications left open in the background can only scan Wi-Fi networks once every half hour in Android 9, and this infuriated the developers.

Android 9. THE Google CHANGE that generated RAGE

Android 9. According to some of them, the Google company blocks functions that are offered by applications that allow locating inside buildings, or analyzing the strength of Wi-Fi signals inside them. Applications that until now allowed the creation of maps with Wi-Fi signals inside buildings have become completely useless in Android 9 because developers can no longer do real-time scans, but only once every few tens of seconds, so the application becomes completely useless.

ElectroSmart is an app that shows the evolution of different signals (Wi-Fi, 2G, 3G, 4G, and Bluetooth) in real time (updates the results every 5 seconds) when the app is run in the foreground. It uses curves to represent this graphically. As such, the users of ElectroSmart who use the app in the foreground expect the results to be updated in that frequency. Now with the new restrictions of Android Pie, the results shown to the static user after the four scans in a 2-minute period are exhausted in the first 20 seconds of the use of the app. This makes the application a whole lot less useful.

Android 9. Numerous complaints have been registered with the Google company because of this change, but the American company says that it will not eliminate it, because it also has very good effects for users. The battery autonomy of phones with Android 9 is seriously improved thanks to this change, it seems that Google puts more emphasis on this than on what some of the developers want, and what they do is not necessarily bad.
