Romania. THE FIRST MARKET where you can pay by card

Romania. The first market where you can pay by card shows us that our country is slowly moving towards the future we hope for.

Romania card payment market

Romania. An extremely interesting announcement, theoretically a first for our country, was made today, because we also have a first market where you can pay with a card instead of physical money. Sibiu is the city in Romania where this magical market exists, the vegetable and fruit stalls have POS where customers can pay directly by card when shopping, which finally represents an evolution for this business environment in the country.

Romania. 30 stalls in the market, together with the dairy hall, have already been equipped with POS for the customers who visit them daily, so that everyone will be able to get rid of the physical money they carry with them. Mastercard, the Association of Market Administrators from Romania, Patria Bank and the City Hall of Sibiu support the project, which of course is a pilot, because in our country people have never been used to being able to pay with a card at the market.

Romania. If the project will be successful, then we should see the implementation of card payment in other markets in our country, which could bring even more customers to the stalls in them. The even worse part is that these POS are contactless, and this means that, yes, you will also be able to pay with your phone, if you already have this possibility, or when Apple Pay will be launched in Romania, and then Google Pay.

"Paying by card, including at merchants in the market, must be a reality and, at the same time, a normality. We are happy to be able to make this possible in the Sibiu market, especially since, with the introduction of POS in merchant areas that were until now the prerogative of cash, consumers will have the opportunity to pay easily, quickly and safely. 30 stalls, including in the dairy hall, were equipped with POS devices, operational from this morning. The first transaction with the card was registered, officially, at 8:30."

Romania. Imagine that you leave home to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, and you only take your mobile phone with you, which holds both the shopping list and the money you will use to pay at the market stalls. For the time being, everything may seem to be something very small, but in reality we are talking about an evolution that was supposed to come for several years in Romania, but here we are in the end to be able to do this as well.
