Valeriu Gheorghita has a warning for the millions of Romanians all over the country before the 4th wave of the Coronavirus hits our country, it is already causing very big problems in many countries in Europe, including Great Britain, which is relaxing even though it has reached over 50.000 of new infections daily.
Valeriu Gheorghita says that vaccination is the only solution to prevent the 4th wave from blocking the whole of Romania with new restrictions, but more importantly, it is necessary to immunize with both doses, in the case of vaccines that have this as the vaccination scheme, otherwise the protection is much reduced.
"What finally interests us, and here we are talking about the effectiveness against the Delta variant, so that things are very clear, compared to a single administered dose, which has an efficiency for the two vaccines, of only 33% for symptomatic COVID.
So the messages are the following: a single dose does not protect us, and then we need to adhere to the vaccination schedule precisely to have benefits in terms of the individual risk of severe form, because there are data showing that infection with the Delta variant is increasing the risk of hospitalization, two or three times, compared to the other viral variants, so the risk of evolution towards severe forms, which was anticipated by the fact that it multiplies at a much faster rate, compared to the other viral variants, as such, if we look at the effectiveness against symptomatic disease, we see that there is a percentage of cases that are not covered well enough, and then obviously we have no way of knowing from the beginning who is protected and who is not protected well enough .”
