iPhone 7 Plus and the shortcomings of the Portrait function

The Portrait function of iPhone 7 Plus is far from perfect, the software still has some problems that need to be solved.

Function Portrait of iPhone 7 Plus, unavailable in iPhone 7, is one of the novelties that I like most about the new smartphone launched by the Apple company. With its help, we can apply a bokeh type effect for photos, available until now mainly on DSLR devices, with the background having a blur applied, while the subject is brought to the foreground.

The Portrait function of iPhone 7 Plus is available in beta version for now, but it has delighted a lot of people and will continue to do so in the future. Those from Apple have announced very clearly that it is currently the test and that it learns on its own from each picture taken by us, the system being based on an artificial intelligence created by those from Apple.

The fact that the Portrait function of the iPhone 7 Plus is currently in beta is very clearly visible in some of the epics made by users and published on the Internet. If you look carefully at some pictures, you will notice that the blur effect is not uniformly applied to people, or to various other objects, sometimes leaving a few millimeters away from the person, or covering certain parts of the body.

In other situations, the Portrait function does not apply blur to elements that should not be in the foreground, and so the user ends up with half of the picture with blur and half without blur. It all depends on the way the system learns from each picture taken, evolving over time towards something almost perfect, as Apple wants its software to be.

The iPhone 7 Plus's Portrait feature is a step in the right direction to give smartphone owners more features until recently only available in DSLRs, but there's still a lot of work to be done. Apple is constantly trying to provide us with great features, but sometimes it takes a little longer for the software to be developed.

I think the Portrait function will be even better in the coming months, as Apple perfects it, but even so, with the iPhone 7 Plus you can take great pictures using it.
