Romania Mobile Internet Consumption, Active Users Evolution 2017

Romania is one of the European countries where the speeds of mobile internet they are extremely good and the traffic is extremely cheap, and this is seen annually in the increases recorded in data traffic consumption. According to ANCOM, in 2017 a Romanian consumed an average of 1.4 GB of monthly internet traffic, more than double compared to 2016, 38% of mobile connections being 4G, while 42% were 3G, network coverage allowing access to high-speed internet.

Without providing data, ANCOM says that the leading telecom operator on the market had 42% of all these connections, the main competitor registering 23%, the next 18%, and the rest of the suppliers 17%. If I had to give my opinion, I would say that the first two places are shared between Vodafone and Orange, with the second having a good chance, from my point of view, to be the leader, while Telekom occupies the third position, and Digi Mobil belongs to the category of other operators.

"The data processed by the Authority for the end of 2017 show that 38% of the total number of mobile internet connections are 4G connections, and 42% 3G connections. Most mobile internet connections (17,3 million – 85%) are used via mobile phone, with the payment of a subscription or a dedicated internet option, these users consuming on average 2017 GB/month in 1,36 (+106 %). According to the number of active mobile internet connections on 31.12.2017, the market leader had a market share of 42%, the main competitor 23%, the next competitor 18%, the other providers totaling 17%."

Finally, ANCOM says that in 2017, 22.4 million mobile phone users were registered in Romania, 2% less than in 2016, 12.1 million using subscriptions and 10.3 million using cards. Compared to 2016, the number of subscriptions increased (+5%) and the number of cards decreased (-9%), and the market leader had 40% of the total number of subscribers, the main competitor had 30%, the third 17%, the rest still 13% , and the above list remains valid here as well, from my point of view.
