Samsung Galaxy S9 was officially presented last weekend by the Samsung company, the new phone reaching a variety of journalists who had the opportunity to test it in every way so far. Samsung Galaxy S9 also offered journalists many test units, most of them with the new Exynos 9810 chip, and its performance proved to be superior to what the Snapdragon 845 chip is going to offer to customers.
Samsung Galaxy S9 will have differences of about 30% in terms of processing power between the Exynos 9810 and Snapdragon 845 chip models, but this could just be a "problem" with the prototypes. According American publication Anandtech, Samsung intends to reduce the performance of the Samsung Galaxy S9 models with the Exynos 9810 chip to bring them to the level of those offered by the Snapdragon 845 chip at the moment.
"I did get confirmation that Samsung is planning to "tune down" the Exynos variant to match the Snapdragon performance - however the current scores which I got on these devices make absolutely no sense so I do hope this is just a mistake that will be resolved in shipping firmwares and we see the full potential of the SoC."
The Samsung Galaxy S9 will practically have for the 9810 chip the performances that we see in the image below for the Snapdragon 845 chip, so far behind those offered by the iPhone X. The price differences between the Samsung Galaxy S9 models with Exynos 9810 and Snapdragon 845 chip are about 200 dollars, so it was logical that there would be differences in performance, but it would seem that things will not stay like this, and some customers could take a big hit.
Samsung Galaxy S9 – possible big hit for customers
The Samsung Galaxy S9 achieved very strange performances in the tests made by Anandtech, and this is because although in Geekbench it surpassed the Snapdragon 845, in other tests it did not surpass it, or worse, it was surpassed by the iPhone 7. You can see in the images below how pitifully the Samsung Galaxy S9 performs in front of the iPhone 7 in the tests for the webview of the operating system, this being a serious problem for such an expensive smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 also has an explanation given by Samsung for this, namely that the firmware of the units offered to journalists would not have been sufficiently "optimized" in terms of performance. However, if they don't give the journalists units of the Samsung Galaxy S9 to be optimized, then why are you asking them to promote your phone, considering that so far the performance raises a lot of question marks.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 could be an extremely big disappointment if the statements of American journalists are true, and those from Samsung really intend to reduce the performance of the Exynos 9810 chip to the values of the Snapdragon 845. In this situation, some Samsung Galaxy customers S9 will be at a price disadvantage, but they will also have phones with poor performance because Qualcomm could not live up to Samsung's expectations.
